Dental Services
Dr. Shary Henderson offers comprehensive dental services in her office in Rochester Hills Michigan. Dr. Henderson is skilled in the latest procedures and technologies to keep your teeth looking and functioning at their best for years to come.
With a focus on preventative care, her initial office examination is unlike any other dental exam you will ever experience. Few people know that structural problems in your mouth or the presence of cavities can be prevented. In doing this comprehensive exam, Dr. Shary is able to correctly identify the 'root cause' of the problem.
By diagnosing early and effectively she is able to leverage the best technology and treatments to resolve the situation quickly. Then the only reason you need to visit the office is for ongoing dental maintenance. That's effective dentistry!
Below are some of the services we offer to our patients.
White Fillings and Crowns
Those old silver fillings that have made your back teeth dark and unattractive can now be replaced with state-of-the-art materials, called composites, that will make your teeth stronger, healthier and much more attractive.
Some of the many benefits of composites are:
- They look better. They blend with the natural color of the tooth and do not cause gray or bluish gray shadowing at the sides of the teeth like silver.
- They physically bond to the tooth structure whereas silver is ‘wedged’ into the tooth to hold.
- They are easier to repair. You don’t have to remove the entire old filling as with silver.
- They are easier for children because often there is no need for the ‘shot’ to numb the area.
Bite Therapy and Treatment of TMJ and Occlusal Equilbrations
If you have pain in your jaw joints or have worn teeth due to clenching and grinding, most often we can treat this non surgically.
After an appropriate clinical evaluation, accurate impressions are made of your teeth and bite records are taken. From the impressions, we make duplicate models of your teeth and mount them on an articulator with the bite records. An articulator is an instrument that simulates the movements of your lower jaw relative to your upper teeth.
Dr. Shary then evaluates how your teeth rub together from all angles. At this point, usually a deprogrammer of bite splint is fabricated to allow the muscles of your head and neck to deprogram or forget their habitual position. This allows your lower jaw to comfortably and naturally relax into the correct resting point in the joint.
Usually a few adjustments are needed to be made on the bite splint. This treatment is non invasive and completely reversible by simply removing the appliance.
We find many of our patients are more comfortable while wearing their bite splint than without it. When they are ready to move forward we take new records and Dr. Shary again evaluates how the teeth rub together on the articulator. At this point she removes any prematurities or interferences in your bite on the models. Some times restorations have to be placed to build up any worn areas to bring your bite back to an optimal bite. This procedure is called a trial equilibration when it is done on models of your teeth.
Once this procedure is completed, Dr. Shary can then reproduce this work in your mouth. This is known as a full mouth occlusal equilibration and this is a definitive treatment to correct your bite. Some patients no longer need to wear a bite splint once this procedure is completed.
