About The Practice
Welcome to Dr Shary Henderson's Dental Practice in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Thank you for taking the time to find out a little more about us. Our goal for each of our patients is simple, we want them to have a healthy smile, one they will enjoy for a lifetime. We put prevention first. Dr Henderson personally sits down with every new patient. She listens to their concerns, learns about their goals and after a comprehensive examination develops with them a customized treatment plan of in home and at office professional care designed to maximize their oral health.
When issues do arise, we also believe in using a conservative approach to managing dental disease. This means we prioritize the use of non or minimally invasive methods to regain optimum oral health. For example, we may be able to use a topical medicine to arrest the development of some cavities without the need for a "shot and the drill." Or, when a cavity is too deep to treat medicinally, we use newly developed materials that require the removal of less tooth structure and are less susceptible to recurrent decay. Dr Henderson is continually searching for new methods and materials to better care for our patients.
Finally we use a comprehensive viewpoint to determine how best to prevent or manage dental issues. Oral health and overall health are connected. More and more research clearly shows the negative impact poor oral health can have on many medical conditions including heart disease, coronary disease, diabetes, some cancers, dementia and pregnancy. Lifestyle habits such as medications, nutrition and stress can also negatively affect oral health. Understanding the "bigger picture" of our patients health - not just their teeth and gums - improves our ability to catch problems early and achieve our goal of prevention first.
Meet Dr. Shary Henderson
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Dr. Shary Henderson graduated from the University of Detroit Dental School in 1992 and immediately began work as an associate in a large dental office in Rochester, Michigan. After 8 years she felt that this type of dental atmosphere was not fulfilling her dreams. By the end of 2001 she began her own practice with the vision of providing advanced dental care in a warm, caring environment with a focus on prevention.
After some research, she concluded The Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education would best provide the tools she needed to have the dental practice of her dreams.
Dr. Henderson started her studies at the Institute in early 2002 and her commitment to dental excellence is ongoing. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association and The Francis B. Vedder Society and continues to study with world renowned dental professionals who are masters in their specialties.
Shary has lived in the Rochester area since 1988 and served the community with her volunteer efforts for the Leader Dogs for the Blind and the Rochester Christmas Parade. She and her husband Bill have served the church in various roles over the years including, heading the Missions Board, organizing and attending dental mission trips and serving on the safety & worship teams. Shary's passion is to worship the Lord with music and she is currently the percussionist for her church worship team.
